Track: Cousin Brian - Fear Instilled

By Joseph Rodriguez

Philly’s Cousin Brian, who have who more knowledge of pubes than anyone else in the world, are readying their debut LP, which will also be the debut release for Mallrat Records. Aside from knowledge of pubic hair, these Philly kids know how to lay down some down right infectious pop tunes. “Fear Instilled,” just one of the 11 tracks from their appropriately titled LP First, is a dance-y punk popper reminiscent of The Smiths and early R.E.M.

You can stream the entire LP on Cousin Brian’s Bandcamp and purchase it through Mallrat June 12th.

Track: English Singles - Finer Points

By Joseph Rodriguez

Scott Miller has been involved in the Sacramento punk scene for some time now as a part of The Bananas, The Ski Instructors and about 15 other bands that I can’t seem to remember at the moment. His latest endeavor, The English Singles, possibly named after the influence of early Sarah and Creation Records 7”s, has a new EP out on Slumberland Records. “Finer Points” is a standout track from the EP, though not an entirely a new song, in fact the EP culls tracks from a long out of print CD-R that English singles self-released a few years ago. Slumberland has an unearthed these recordings for those who missed out on these supreme pop gems.

Track: Hell Shovel - Summer’s Over

By Joseph Rodriguez

Hell Shovel is the psychedelic endeavor of Jeff Clarke from Montreal’s Demon’s Claws. The band has been slightly on the reclusive side since it’s inception releasing a few albums in extreme limited runs through labels such as the German based Sound Of Cobra Records. Over the past year, it seems as though Clarke has focused his attention on bringing Hell Shovel out of the dark and placing it onto your LSD soaked brain. The band toured the U.S. with Acid Baby Jesus last year and is set to release their debut LP through Slovenly on May 29th. “Summer’s Over”, which you can listen to below, was originally released as a 7” through Gingerpig Records, but is making a proper return on the upcoming LP Hated By The Sun.

Track Premiere: Warm Soda - Reaction

By Joseph Rodriguez

As most of you already know Bare Wires is no more. The band had some trouble during their recent tour, well I won’t get into all the details, but yeah, don’t expect a reunion. Luckily, Matthew Melton, the former leader of Bare Wires, is as resilient as they come. He’s spent no time getting back to doing what he loves best. Warm Soda is his new band, and in similar fashion to recent Bare Wires output, this trio dish out sugary sweet power-pop melodies with shades of punk fury. “Reaction”, the first offering from the new band will be included on their upcoming 7” to be released through Southpaw Records. You can also keep a lookout for Bare Wire’s final recorded LP to be released through Southpaw sometime this summer.

Catch one of Warm Soda’s first live shows at GET BENT’S 1 Year Anniversary Party this Friday in Los Angeles.

Track: Terry Malts - Disconnect

By Joseph Rodriguez

Hot on the heels of their freshly released LP Killing Time (Slumberland Records), Terry Malts have a new forthcoming release. The trio are set to drop a split 7” with local Cali natives Dead Angle, through Loglady Records. “Disconnect” finds Malts on the same path of bass heavy, fuzz heavy, all around crush-pop heavy waves that were so prevalent on the recent LP. On the flip side, you’ll find a cover of Factory Records legends The Durutti Column. Pretty stoked to hear that one. Listen to both A-sides of the split below, and pre-order it over at Loglady.

Track: Fergus & Geronimo - Roman Tick

By Joseph Rodriguez

Denton gone Brooklyn rockers, Fergus & Geronimo are back with a follow up to their 2011 LP released through Hardly Art. Romantic, or “Roman Tick” I should say, is the first dip in the water from their forthcoming album Funky Was The State Of Affairs. Gone is the Kinks worship from last year’s LP. Fergus & Geronimo are back to doing what they did best on their early singles, creating punk-tinged pop songs that you’ll be humming all day.

Fergus & Geronimo - Roman Tick

Funky Was The State Of Affairs will be out through Hardly Art August 7th.

If dark, post-punk full of razor blade sharp guitars and chaotic chanting is your thing, you have no reason not to click play below.
