We all know that in our wildest dreams Hunx is a triplet, because duh, triple the Hunx means triple the fun. Directed by the radical Hannah Lew of Grass Widow, Hunx released his first music video, “Always Forever” for his solo project via Rookie Magazine. It features a flying Hunx, baby Nirvana Hunx, and lots of costume changes.
Hunx’s solo album Hairdresser Blues, is due Feb. 28th on Hardly Art. Check out Hunx’s tour schedule below.
Nashville’s hardest workin’, beer drinkin’ weed smokin’ men, Natural Child, are planning on dominating 2012. They have not 1, not 2 but 3 LPs dropping this year. The first 2, which will be put out by Burger Records, are Bodyswitchers, a reissue of their cassette originally released by Infinity Cat, and For The Love Of The Game. The 3rd, which is entitled Hard In Heaven, will be released “before the world ends in 2012”. If the world does end, Natty Child will be going out with a bang. See ‘em live headlining some dates in March, and in April with Hunx and His Punx. Scope out the full tour schedule below, and hear the first cut from The Love of The Game, “Ain’t Gonna Stop”, here.
Like his former Gravy Train!!! bandmate, Hunx, Brontez Purnell turned to a more traditional style of punk rock after the electro-dance sound of Gravy Train!!! derailed. Brontez has already put out an LP earlier this year on Bachelor Records, but that’s not letting him stop from letting the beat ride. “The Boy From The Leeds” is from his freshly released EP on Southpaw Records, who will also be putting out his 3rd LP this winter.
Seth Bogart, perhaps better known as Hunx, is set to release a solo album (Hairdresser Blues) February 28 on Hardly Art. His new track, “Always Forever”, is a swingin’ garage pop delicacy to tide us over until we get to hear more. Have a listen below.
Ever wondered what all the rockin’ ruckus that Hunx and His Punx is all about? Well, lucky you if you live in the Californ-i-a region (San Diego, Long Beach, and Palm Springs specifically) because Hunx is doing three FREE (with RSVP) blazin’ shows on November 18, 19 and 20, courtesy of Sailor Jerry.
…AND you get Heavy Hawaii, Audacity, and Bleached as openers. Mods, rockers, squares, hepcats, dweebs, punks, hipsters, lame-os, and soches are all equally encouraged to party like it’s, well, 2011. Have a rhum for me.
Ty Segall, John Dwyer, Nobunny and Hunx are probably the most common names dropped when talking about current garage rock. One name that should be included in that list is Matthew Melton. Melton has been fronting Bare Wires going on half a decade, and one thing I’ve noticed over the years is that he gets more confident in his song crafting abilities as well as his presence as a frontman on each release. Take a look at Bare Wires’ new video “Never Gonna Change”, taken from their highly anticipated LP Cheap Perfume, and you can see what I’m getting at it. Melton’s swagger and calm, but cool demeanor are something I wouldn’t of expected from the guy who wrote “Voodoo Doll” back in 2007. Melton’s always had it in him, but now he’s fully embracing it, and that’s something that’s never gonna change.
Southpaw Records is currently taking pre-orders for Cheap Perfume which is expected to drop October 18th.
The Beets’ Stay Home is undoubtedly one of my favorite LPs to come out this year. It almost comes as a shock to me that these Queens, NY weirdos are about to wow me again this year. Let The Poison Out will be The Beet’s 3rd overall LP and the 2nd to be released this year, but will mark the first time they’ll not be releasing their material through NY label Captured Tracks. Sub Pop subsidiary Hardly Art will be the new home of The Beets. Their brand of lazy garage pop, in which they’ve so wonderfully captured in “Doing As I Do”, will find no problems sitting well next to label mates: Hunx and His Punx, Colleen Green, Jacuzzi Boys and Fergus & Geronimo.
In a stroke of utter genius, Nardwuar the Human Serviette interviews Hunx and His Punx! Discussed: Nobunny and peeing, their stint at Disneyland Jail, all sorts of sex, their alteregos. If you have the chance to check out Hunx and his girlfriends during their September tour, don’t sit on your ass and miss it! If you’re lucky, enough they might just pee on you.
