The most grooviest, psych-rockers around, Unknown Mortal Orchestra just recently finished off a lengthy tour of the U.S. with Toro Y Moi and Fat Possum label mates Bass Drum of Death, but they’re coming back for one more round. They just announced another batch of dates of the U.S., this time with San Francisco’s Girls.
You can see the full tour schedule after the jump, but before you do that, make sure to check out UMO’s new cupcake-y, head floating video for “Thought Ballune”, taken from their self titled LP, above.
Ever since Girls debuted, blogs a-buzzing, I found their popularity curious. From their generic name to their uninspired single and EP covers, down to their meek garage-folk sound, I could never understand why they seemed to have such universal acclaim. I did my best to put all of that aside as I listened to Father, Son, Holy Ghost, but nearly an hour later (yes, they made a 53-minute indie rock album), my past feelings toward them had only intensified.
Girls have certainly checked every garage and indie genre box they could find for record three. Despite that perceived eclecticism, the whole affair is executed with such listlessness that even their bombastic guitar solos fail to rouse. Wan and meandering at its worst and predictable at its best, you won’t find much excitement or surprise on any of these eleven tracks. But if you need background music for your next Midwest college party and don’t have any Wilco handy, Father, Son, Holy Ghost will suffice.
You can preorder the album, which will be out September 13, from True Panther. Take a listen to “Vomit” below.
Nobunny and Girls are going to be spending some quality time together in September (and early October) as they head out across the Americas (and Canadas). Nobunny is always a sweaty, boozefest, littered with smarmy rock ‘n’ roll. Girls are beginning their tour in support of the new LP Father, Son, Holy Ghost (out September 13) before heading off to the UK/EU in November. Check out the dates with Nobunny below.
Girls, a band made up of only dudes, can often be found hidden in photographs amongst large groups of fancily dressed women. Even when they put themselves right in front, you lose sight of them as soon as you begin to stare into the sea of pretty faces. Do not let this charade fool you though; these guys are certainly not trying to blend in. They recently annouced a new LP to be named Father, Son, Holy Ghost, which will release September 13th on True Panther. The band will also kick off a HUGE tour to celebrate around the same time. They are going all over the world and then finishing up in the United States, so there should be more than enough opportunities for everyone to check them out. Dates listed below…
