Review: Dead Luke - Meanwhile… In the Midwest

By Burgers Rana
Spacemen 3’s The Perfect Prescription is an album meant to recreate the feel of a complete hallucinogenic experience. It is, in my opinion, one of those rare perfect albums, and it does accomplish its goal of placing you in that hazy, beautiful world that is tripping. As time has gone on, many bands cite the Spacemen 3 as a core and very important influence, but few have come close to actually sounding like a reborn version of J Spaceman. Until now. Dead Luke’s sophomore LP, and first for Moon Glyph, Meanwhile… In The Midwest comes pretty darn close to not only sounding like a new Spacemen 3 album, but also has the same hallucinogenic qualities of The Perfect Prescription.
Heavy on the repetition and flawless in its mix from acoustic guitars to electric, Meanwhile… is a great listen for the garage-folk enthusiast, especially in the coming months when snow and cold weather only enhance the fuzz in the psych experience. LPs are available for the this new release (from the cassette centered label) and I can only imagine that vinyl is the ultimate way to listen to this warm record.
