Review: John Wesley Coleman III / Followed by Static - Split 12”

John Wesley Coleman III’s “I’m Fucked and I’m Cool” backed with Followed by Static’s “Cop Gloves” would have been more than enough reason to buy this record, but the six other songs don’t disappoint. Coleman takes it in and out of proto-punk territory, throws in some echo-soaked jangly guitar and layered vocals for the title track and rounds it off with a meandering tribute to Giuseppe Andrews’ trailer park films. Followed by Static also has a diverse sound going from doomy to country-lathered punk finishing off with a raspy psychedelic number. Personality Pancake and Bacon Bear are certainly part of a complete breakfast.
