Review: Tropical Punk - Ends of the World

The first time I heard the name Tropical Punk I thought someone had come up with a new ridiculous music genre. Luckily for the world though, it’s not a genre of music, but the name of a band. A band that, with Ends of the World, brings us a refreshingly original album full of songs that sound like a collaboration between the Beach Boys and the Ramones. The songs walk that thin line between popsong and psychedelia that can easily get either boring or pretentious. Tropical Punk pull it off perfectly though, and you’ll probably listen to this album a lot more than once. The band itself explains what the album is about on their Bandcamp: “It’s called Ends of the World because on the second Wednesday of every month for the past three years, we have a party and pretend the world is ending at midnight. The album is really about that.” Well… if this was the album playing at the final party before the world ends, I wouldn’t be disappointed.
On a final note, I want to give special credits to the singer for his ‘I sound like I’m not even trying to sing properly but still every note is right and I sound really cool’-vocal style. Personal favorite tracks: “Stay With Me” and “Dream Darlin”.
The album’s available either digitally or on homemade CD via Bandcamp.
